THE HOSPITALLER ORDER OF SAINT LAZARUS OF JERUSALEM

‘The Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem’ is a ‘Confraternity of Hospitallers’ founded in the ethos and ideals of the original Order of Saint Lazarus, which came to prominence during the time of the Crusades, and ended with the death of the last King of France.
The governance of the Order in the UK, and overseas, is in the hands of The Grand Council of The United Grand Priories of The Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem.
The Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, as a Confraternity of Hospitallers, is registered as a Limited Company under British law, and supports The Saint Lazarus Hospice Association, a British charity, registered with the Charity Commissioners.
The Statutes and Constitution of The United Grand Priories of The Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem are firmly based on the Constitution of The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and, as such, are legally binding in the UK.
The requirements, in this day and age, of being recognised as a bona fide ‘Order of Chivalry’ are very clearly defined by the British, French, Spanish and other national Governments and, as The Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem is unable to meet those very demanding requirements, The Grand Council of the Order has legislated, and ensured, that none of its members or organisations make any unsubstantiated claims.
The Confraternity has adopted a Church Mantle similar to that used by other organisations, but its decorations are peculiar to itself.
Rank and Grades in the Order are similar to those adopted by other British organisations of a similar type and in no way contravene British law, or the laws of those countries overseas in which the Order is currently operating.
The Confraternity is ecumenical, in that it may accept into membership any person belonging to a recognised Christian denomination, and is open to Christian men and women over the age of 18.
