RICHARD hOUSE CHILDRENS' HOSPICE INSTALLING LCD SCREENS AND DVD PLAYERS
Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 11:08

Confrère John Emms OLJ, from the Commandery of Buckingham of the Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, worked with staff at Richard House Children’s Hospice to determine what would benefit the wellbeing of bedridden child inpatients at the end of life. Following this, an application was made to the Saint Lazarus Hospice Association for 8 wall-mounted LCD screens and DVD players totalling £3,700. The Assistant Hospitaller of the Hospitaller Department, Confrère Michael Seed OLJ, wrote: ‘This is a highly innovative project that will directly benefit and stimulate children who are unable to leave their rooms’.
Manjeet Bopari of Richard House Children's Hospice commented: 'These televisions are needed for the children’s bedrooms being something that the hospice would find difficult to fund from the normal budget. The children in the hospice in the most suffer from a severe lack of mobility and these televisions will thus assist greatly in their education and general enjoyment, and bearing in mind most would have a very limited life span.'
Richard House Hospice exists to give severely handicapped children as good and comfortable life as possible where the parents or carers can no longer cope. They also give short respite care so that the parents or carers can take a holiday or just rest from what is a very stressful life.
