REVEREND CANON FRÀ MICHAEL ALISTER MORRELL St.JOHN-CHANNELL

2 April 2014

A Requiem Eucharist for the Reverend Canon Frà Michael Alister Morrell St.John-Channell, was held at Winchester Cathedral on Friday 14th March 2014. The Order was represented by the Master-General, Frà John Baron von Hoff, Pauline Baroness von Hoff, Frà Werner and Mrs Sarb, Chevalier Bryan and Mrs Page, Doctor Rosemary Waddy, Confrère Kevin Chappuis, Confrère Michael and Mrs Seed, Confrère Frank Powell, Confrère Jack Love, Confrère Paul Phillips, Reverend Father William and Mrs Whitfield, and as guests of the Order, the Reverend Simon and Mrs Thorn. The members of the Order entered in procession together with all the church dignitaries, and were seated with the Canons and visiting clergy.

Amongst the many saying ‘goodbye’ to Michael were, the Lord Lieutenant for Hampshire, Dame Mary Fagan, the Mayor and Mayoress of Winchester, four Bishops and more than fifty other assorted prelates and clergy of various distinctions.

The cathedral was packed (a guess would be around 800 people in total). The choir, who had fallen very much into Michael’s remit during his time at the cathedral, were outstanding, as was the choice of music. It was a sad, yet at the same time, glorious, occasion of which Michael would have approved. It was what he deserved…
